Gyeonggi Province to Conduct 'Safety Inspections' at Apartment Construction Sites Ahead of Rainy Season

Gyeonggi Province will conduct inspections at apartment construction sites to prepare for the rainy season.

On May 22, Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced that from May 26 to June 5, it will carry out a "Safety Inspection of Apartment Construction Sites in Preparation for the Rainy Season" at 10 apartment complexes in the province where initial construction is underway.

This joint inspection by the province and local cities and counties will include private experts in civil engineering, architecture, and construction safety. The 10 targeted sites are apartment construction sites in the province that are either undergoing groundworks such as excavation or are at the early stage of frame construction. These sites either have cut slopes or are large-scale complexes with more than 1,000 units.

The main items to be checked in each field include: the management status of flood control measures and drainage facilities in preparation for heavy rainfall; the safety management of slopes, retaining walls, stone embankments, and excavation sections; the adequacy of countermeasures to prevent overturning of temporary fences and cranes in preparation for typhoons and ground subsidence; and the adequacy of on-site safety management plans to prevent heatstroke, fire, and electric shock accidents.

Sites not included in this inspection will be checked independently by the respective cities and counties. For urgent or minor issues found during the inspection, immediate action will be taken on-site. For matters requiring repairs or reinforcement, the relevant city or county will be notified to complete the necessary measures before the rainy season and to ensure ongoing management.

Hong Ilyoung, Director of Apartment Housing at Gyeonggi Province, said, "We will do our utmost to prevent various accidents that may occur at construction sites by conducting pre-inspections with experts before the full-scale rainy season begins."
