Between Spring and Summer, the City Is Immersed in Music Festivals 'Asian Pop Festival 2024' Venue. Paradise City

As the live performance market regains its vitality, major music festivals are set to take place across Seoul and the surrounding metropolitan area from late May through late June. With a blend of diverse genres and a growing trend of fan-centered consumption, both the format of these festivals and the demographics of their audiences are evolving rapidly.

The Seoul Jazz Festival, now in its 17th year, will be held from May 30 to June 1 in the Olympic Park area of Songpa-gu, Seoul. The lineup features a balanced mix of domestic and international jazz and pop artists, including American saxophonist Kamasi Washington, British singer-songwriter RAYE?who collaborated with Lisa of BLACKPINK?and Jannabi. The legendary ten-member band Tower of Power will headline the event, bringing the festival to a grand finale.

Preceding this, the 2025 Seoul Park Music Festival will be held on May 28 and 29 at the same venue, the 88 Lawn Field and KSPO Dome in Olympic Park. A total of 28 teams?including Nell, CNBLUE, Jaurim, Dynamic Duo, Bolbbalgan4, and Paul Kim?will perform over two days. Emerging bands such as Lucy and Dragonpony will also participate, presenting a stage that spans generations.

From June 13 to 15, the same location will host Beautiful Mint Life 2025, a city-style music festival. The event has expanded from two to three days and will operate across three stages, including the KSPO Dome. A total of 54 teams, including Younha, Jung Seunghwan, YB, Davichi, Silica Gel, 10CM, Soran, Peppertones, Roy Kim, and Hwang Garam, will take part. The festival will also offer a variety of experiential content, such as a flea market, artist participation programs, a cola chugging contest, a floral calligraphy class, a melodion class, and the Million View Challenge.

The WeverseCon Festival will take place from May 31 to June 1 at Inspire Entertainment Resort on Yeongjongdo, Incheon. The lineup includes HYBE label artists such as Tomorrow X Together, Le Sserafim, Enhypen, and ILLIT, as well as BoA, AKMU, Nell, and other artists representing various generations. In addition to performances, the festival will feature a goods market, fan events, and exhibition content, operating as a platform-style festival.

On June 14 and 15, the World DJ Festival, an EDM-based event, will be held at Seoul Land. Internationally renowned DJs such as Alan Walker, Alesso, DJ Snake, and Anima will perform. The festival will be run as an immersive, multi-experience event in conjunction with the amusement park. Following this, the Asian Pop Festival will take place across Paradise City in Incheon on June 21 and 22. More than 50 teams from nine Asian countries, including Idiotape, Jaytong, and Hypnosystherapy, will participate.

Between Spring and Summer, the City Is Immersed in Music Festivals

The most notable feature of this year's music festivals is the gradual breakdown of boundaries between genres and generations. Hip-hop artists are appearing on jazz stages, while idol fans are flocking to indie venues, resulting in increasingly diverse lineups. Performances centered on a single genre are becoming less common, while programs that cross generations and cater to a variety of tastes are on the rise. K-pop artists are not only performing but are also deeply involved in planning goods and fan events, taking an active role in the overall festival experience.

Within this trend, the activities of artists who began their careers as idols are particularly noteworthy. Zerobaseone will perform at the Seoul Park Music Festival, while Yuju, formerly of GFriend, and Wooseok of Pentagon will take the stage at Beautiful Mint Life. Doyoung of NCT will perform at the Seoul Jazz Festival, naturally expanding the boundaries of festivals that were once focused mainly on indie and jazz genres.

The most striking example of the fan-centered consumption culture is WeverseCon. WeverseCon has evolved beyond a single-label concert into a new form of K-pop festival that combines fandom-driven content consumption with the distribution of products through digital platforms.

Music festivals are now expanding beyond simple live performances to become comprehensive content experiences that include accommodation, leisure, and goods (MD) sales. Audiences are no longer just attending a festival for a day; they are experiencing festivals where they stay and participate. Music has moved beyond the realm of mere appreciation to become a cultural content linked to industry, and the live performance market is showing a trend of restructuring into a content-driven industry, surpassing simple recovery.
