On May 20, Jung Kimyeong, Mayor of Yeosu in South Jeolla Province, visited the Organizing Committee for the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo (hereinafter referred to as the Organizing Committee) to hold a meeting addressing various current issues.
The meeting was attended by approximately 30 people, including Mayor Jung, Vice Mayor Choi Jeonggi, Secretary General of the Organizing Committee Kim Jonggi, and senior public officials. The agenda included reports and discussions on the status of preparations and plans for the Island Expo.
Mayor Jung stated, "Recently, we were designated as a partner institution of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), which granted us permission to use the official logo. In addition, following Seoul, we have signed an agreement with Busan to ensure the successful hosting of the Island Expo, thereby establishing a solid foundation for both domestic and international networks." He added, "With just over a year remaining until the Expo, I hope that Yeosu City will fully mobilize its administrative capabilities."
He continued, "Although we hold monthly meetings to address current issues, for the remaining direct and indirect related projects, I urge you to meet three to four times as needed at the working level to share information and to respond proactively by preparing countermeasures promptly for any problems that arise."
