Attending Pretrial Detention Hearing...
Decision Expected This Afternoon
Cha Cheolnam, a Chinese-Korean resident who killed two people and injured two others in Siheung, Gyeonggi Province, showed no remorse for his actions.
On May 21, at around 9:30 a.m., Cha left the Siheung Police Station in Gyeonggi Province to attend a pretrial detention hearing. When asked by reporters whether he intended to kill the convenience store owner and landlord, he briefly replied, "No." When asked if the crime was committed suddenly, he nodded in response. Cha did not answer further questions such as, "Were you close to the victims who died and did you commit the crime because of 30 million won?", "Do you have anything to say to the victims?", or "What was your relationship with the victims?" Instead, he boarded the transport vehicle without further comment.
Later, at around 9:57 a.m., after arriving at the Ansan Branch of Suwon District Court, Cha was asked by reporters, "Why did you wait two days after killing the two Chinese-Korean brothers before committing additional crimes?" He replied, "A textbook sociopathic narcissist," and added, "Very bad people."
The Ansan Branch of Suwon District Court will hold a pretrial detention hearing for Cha, who is charged with murder and attempted murder, at 11:00 a.m. on the same day. Whether or not he will be detained is expected to be decided later that afternoon.
Cha is accused of killing two people and stabbing and injuring two others, including a convenience store owner and a building landlord, with a weapon at his home in Jeongwang-dong, Siheung, on May 17.
It was reported that Cha had lent about 30 million won to the brothers he killed, and after they failed to repay him, he planned the crime in advance, including purchasing a weapon earlier this month.
Regarding the convenience store owner, who suffered serious injuries, Cha reportedly stated that he committed the crime "because he spoke ill of me," and regarding the landlord, he said it was "because he looked down on me."
