Suncheon City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu), announced on May 20 that it has completed the road expansion project in the area of Guamwon-gil, stretching from Emart Pungdeok Branch toward the direction of the Guam Underpass, and fully opened the road to traffic starting from May 10.

This section previously posed safety risks for pedestrians, as the roadway and sidewalk were not separated. In addition, certain parts of the road were too narrow for vehicles to pass each other, resulting in traffic inconvenience and increased risk of accidents.

The city carried out this project using a public contribution of approximately 800 million won from a nearby residential construction project (Daewoo Prugio). The existing single-lane road was expanded to two lanes (with a length of 368 meters and a width of 12 meters), and sidewalks and safety facilities were also improved. Through these measures, the safety of pedestrians and bicycle users has been enhanced, and smoother vehicle flow has been secured.

A city official stated, "With this road expansion, the traffic flow along the main axis connecting Pungdeok-dong and Yeonhyang-dong will be greatly improved," adding, "We plan to continue making efforts to improve urban infrastructure to ensure a safe and comfortable transportation environment for citizens."
