On May 20, the Gwangsan District Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters in Gwangju stated, "A roadmap for compensation must be established and implemented as soon as possible in relation to the Kumho Tire Gwangju plant fire."

The Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters issued a statement that day, pointing out, "Citizens' confusion is increasing because Kumho Tire has not clearly presented comprehensive guidelines regarding the scope and procedures of compensation."

The statement continued, "Currently, many residents are living in shelters, and the number of cases of damage to homes, vehicles, and other property caused by smoke and falling debris continues to rise." The headquarters emphasized, "Kumho Tire must present a concrete plan to address citizens' inconveniences and demands, and must promptly implement compensation and countermeasures."

It also added, "Please actively cooperate by sending personnel to help operate the shelters," and "The cause of the fire should be identified quickly to prevent recurrence, and efforts must be made to restore the daily lives of affected residents as soon as possible."

Park Byungkyu, head of the district office, stated, "I extend my condolences to the Kumho Tire executives and employees who have been disheartened by this unexpected fire, and I express my gratitude to the firefighters, police officers, and volunteers who worked hard to extinguish the fire."
