Gwangju City Anticipates Becoming a Key Metropolitan Transportation Hub
Through Connection with the GTX-D Line
The 'Gonjiam Station Area (Phase 2) Urban Development Project' being promoted by Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province is scheduled to be reviewed by the Gyeonggi-do Urban Planning Committee at the end of May. The designation of the urban development district is expected to be finalized as early as July.
According to Gwangju City on May 20, the city is currently conducting a contract review process for commissioning the detailed design service, in order to ensure continuity in the project alongside the designation of the urban development district. The city plans to place the order for the service immediately upon completion of the contract review in May or June, and will then begin the full-scale bidding process.
This detailed design service is a key stage in specifying the large-scale urban development project, which has a total budget of approximately 210 billion KRW. Its purpose is to establish a blueprint for the development, including infrastructure planning and site design.
The Phase 2 development of the Gonjiam Station Area will be promoted as a residential-focused mixed-use project. Combined with Phase 1, the area will be developed to accommodate a total of 3,000 households. As a result, this region is expected to become a core residential area serving as a sub-center of Gwangju City.
In particular, future connections with the GTX-D line are expected to enable the area to emerge as a central hub for metropolitan transportation in the Seoul Capital Area.
Bang Sehwan, Mayor of Gwangju City, stated, "The Phase 2 urban development project for the Gonjiam Station Area is a key initiative for balanced regional development and for strengthening the city's role as a metropolitan transportation hub. We will do our utmost to ensure the smooth progress of the project through efficient administrative procedures."
