Nonsan Selected for "Joint Resource Facility Project"... Achievement Driven by Mayor Baek Seonghyeon's Leadership Aerial View of Joint Resource Facility / Nonsan City Hall

Thanks to the strong drive and policy leadership of Mayor Baek Seonghyeon of Nonsan City, Chungnam Province, Nonsan has been finally selected for the "Joint Resource Facility (Energy Conversion) Public Project" hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

This marks a turning point that can simultaneously address two major challenges: livestock odor issues and the transition to eco-friendly energy. It is also expected to serve as a decisive opportunity to establish Nonsan as a "leading city in smart livestock farming."

According to the city on May 20, the core of this project is to build a large-scale, eco-friendly, resource-circulating energy facility in the Gwangseok-myeon area. This aligns with the "Clean Smart Livestock Complex Construction Project" (2024?2028), which is being promoted as a key initiative by Mayor Baek.

In particular, the project will convert livestock manure into biogas, which will then be used to generate electricity and thermal energy. This will not only promote resource recycling within the region but also contribute to achieving carbon neutrality.

The pig farming complex in Gwangseok-myeon has suffered from odor complaints for over 30 years. Since the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration, Mayor Baek has demonstrated a strong commitment to resolving this issue and has accelerated efforts to create a smart livestock complex.

Although the project initially faced difficulties due to insufficient compliance with guidelines, Mayor Baek's persistent persuasion and continuous appeals to central government agencies ultimately led to a revision of the relevant guidelines, resulting in the project's selection.

Mayor Baek stated, "The health and quality of life of our citizens are the highest priorities of city administration," and added, "We will not only establish eco-friendly livestock infrastructure but also make Nonsan a central city for future-oriented, sustainable agriculture."

Through this project, Nonsan has secured a total project budget of 24.4 billion KRW (including 12.2 billion KRW in national funding). In conjunction with the "Clean Smart Livestock Complex"?which will receive a total investment of 67.8 billion KRW by 2028?the city will begin full-scale implementation of eco-friendly livestock innovation. As a result, complaints related to odors are expected to decrease dramatically, and the thermal energy produced will be recycled in the agricultural sector, generating significant energy savings.

Following last year's selection for the "Smart Livestock Complex Public Project," Nonsan's consecutive selection for the Joint Resource Facility project is seen as evidence that Mayor Baek's livestock policy vision is becoming a reality.

This project, which encompasses resource circulation, carbon neutrality, and energy self-sufficiency, is expected to serve as a model case for other local governments in the future.

A city official stated, "Such results were made possible by Mayor Baek's strong drive and continuous administrative efforts," and added, "We will focus our administrative capabilities so that Nonsan can become a leading sustainable livestock city."
