On May 20, the Gwangju City Government announced that it will hold the "2025 Policy Evaluation Expo" on the first floor of City Hall on May 24 to mark the 60th Gwangju Citizens' Day.

This expo is a citizen-participatory policy evaluation event that has been held for three consecutive years in accordance with the 8th popularly elected administration's pledges. The theme of this year's event is "Empowering Policies with the Strength of Citizens: Please Lend Your Support for a Stronger Democracy and a Warmer Civic Economy."

At the expo, 31 "Most Anticipated Star Policies of the Year" selected directly by citizens will be exhibited and introduced, and on-site evaluations will be conducted. The 31 star policies were chosen from 65 candidates through the GwangjuOn citizen communication platform and an online survey of city and district officials conducted in April. The survey involved 4,924 citizens and 1,116 city and district officials, who voted to select the most anticipated policies.

The major selected star policies include: ▲Daebo City ▲Gwangju G-Pass ▲Complex Shopping Mall ▲2025 Visit Gwangju Year ▲Integrated and Medical Care ▲Public Healthcare ▲Gwangju Living for Single-Person Households ▲Future-Oriented Urban Space, Gwangcheon Terminal ▲Gwangju Economy All Together Chak-Chak-Chak ▲Cool City Response to Heat Waves ▲Youth Policy, among others.

Citizens can select the two policies they are most looking forward to and vote for them on-site. They can also leave their opinions by attaching star-shaped sticky notes (Post-its) to the "Citizen Opinion Board." In addition, a photo zone will be set up to showcase last year's municipal achievements and visions for Gwangju's future.

The voting results will be displayed in real time on a large monitor at the venue, allowing citizens to directly experience the process of "empowering policies with the strength of citizens."

Lee Byungcheol, Director of Planning and Coordination, stated, "As this year's Policy Evaluation Expo theme suggests, Gwangju is building a better future by empowering policies with the strength of its citizens. We will do our utmost to design Gwangju's future together and ensure these efforts lead to changes that citizens can truly feel."

Meanwhile, starting with the on-site evaluation at this Policy Evaluation Expo, the city plans to conduct a policy evaluation for local community leaders in July and hold the "Star Policy Contest That Brightened Gwangju" in December, where the top 10 best policies of the year will be selected.
