Bucheon City Establishes Standing Signboard Ordinance, Provides Legal Basis for Installation

Bucheon City announced on May 20 that it has established installation guidelines for standing signboards, which can now be registered following the revision of the outdoor advertising ordinance.

Previously, standing signboards were classified as outdoor advertisements that could be registered under the law. However, due to the lack of a separate fee standard, they were excluded from the registration and approval process. This led to ongoing complaints, repeated enforcement and removal actions, and resulting inconvenience for both residents and business owners.

In response, the city introduced a new fee regulation for standing signboards through an ordinance revision last month, thereby establishing an institutional framework that allows advertisers to install standing signboards legally. The installation location is now restricted to within building premises, not on roads. The use of electricity and lighting is prohibited, and detailed installation guidelines specifying size, materials, and other requirements have been set forth.

Standing signboards can be registered at the district office, with a display period of three years and a fee of 3,000 won per signboard.

A Bucheon City official stated, "Standing signboards are an important means of enhancing visibility and providing guidance within commercial areas. By introducing the fee regulation and installation guidelines, we aim to encourage legal installations and foster a sound advertising culture."
