National Innovation Party: "Yoon Sukyeol's Departure Is a Sham Divorce... People Power Party Should Have Expelled Him"

On May 17, the National Innovation Party criticized former President Yoon Sukyeol's voluntary departure from the People Power Party, stating, "Yoon Sukyeol, the ringleader of the insurrection, leaving the People Power Party is nothing more than a sham divorce."

Kim Sunmin, acting leader of the Innovation Party, said in a message released to the media that day, "He chose to leave the party as a formality, conscious of the difficulties he faces in the presidential election, but the essence is obvious."

Kim also directly criticized the People Power Party, saying, "Yoon Sukyeol is someone who should have been expelled from the People Power Party, not someone who should have left voluntarily. Nevertheless, by ultimately embracing Yoon Sukyeol, the People Power Party has once again revealed itself as a party that condones insurrection and protects its ringleader."

Kim further stated, "I cannot recall any former president who, after being removed from office, so blatantly supported a particular political party. Yoon Sukyeol is a political monster who destroys every standard in the Republic of Korea."

Kim emphasized, "It is absolutely wrong that Yoon Sukyeol, the ringleader of the insurrection and the person responsible for abuse of power and various breaches of state discipline, is still walking free and issuing political statements. Investigative agencies and the courts must mobilize all their authority and resources to detain Yoon Sukyeol."
