Elevator Installation and Seismic Reinforcement Completed at Mangwon 1-dong Community Center in Mapo-gu

Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Kangsoo) has newly installed an elevator at the Mangwon 1-dong Community Center, completed seismic reinforcement, and carried out environmental improvement work, creating a safe and convenient space for both residents and visitors.

Mangwon 1-dong is an area with a high floating population and many tourists due to attractions such as Mangwon Market and Hangang Park. However, until now, the community center did not have an elevator, so elderly people, people with disabilities, and visitors with strollers had to use the stairs, causing inconvenience.

This inconvenience was continuously raised during the 2023 residents' meeting and the Win-Win Committee meeting. Reflecting the voices of residents, Mapo-gu carried out construction work for about five months starting in December 2024 and completed the installation of the elevator.

The newly installed elevator operates from the first basement level to the rooftop and is designed to be easily accessible from outside the building. In addition, the layout was planned so that people with disabilities and the elderly can use it safely and conveniently.

With this project, residents with mobility difficulties can now access public services more conveniently, and beyond simply improving convenience, the physical "barriers" of public facilities have been lowered.

Along with the elevator installation, seismic reinforcement to prepare for earthquakes, replacement of old stairs, and maintenance of sidewalk blocks were also carried out, further enhancing overall safety and transforming the community center into a more pleasant and safe space.

Park Kangsoo, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "I am pleased that we have resolved a long-standing wish of residents with the installation of the elevator and seismic reinforcement work," and added, "We will continue to listen to residents and improve aging facilities to make Mapo a safer and better place to live."
