Unique Extracurricular Activity in Its Third Year
A Model Case of Global Collaboration Draws Attention
Dongmyung University (President Lee Sangcheon) is seeing fruitful results from its annual 'Oi Market' event.
This year, the event presented a meaningful achievement by being a joint project between Korean and Japanese universities and by donating all proceeds, offering a new model for global cooperation.
The Oi Market, operated as part of the 'Introduction to Welfare Marketing' course in the Department of Welfare Management at the College of Future Convergence, Dongmyung University, marks its third year in 2025. This course is an original, field-based class that combines theory and practice, aiming to strengthen the practical capabilities of adult learners.
This year, the project expanded into an international collaboration as Professor Kim Sangjun from the Faculty of Business Administration at Kinki University in Osaka, Japan, and local students participated in the joint planning. It was noteworthy that school-age students and adult learners from both countries worked together to plan and operate the secondhand market.
At this year's Oi Market, held on April 29 at the Dongmyung University campus, secondhand items donated by students were sold as part of ESG management practices. All proceeds were donated on May 13 to the Dongmyung University Development Fund to support the university's advancement.
Hong Jihee, a student in the Department of Welfare Management, shared, "Applying theory in practice on-site broadened my learning, and collaborating with fellow students was meaningful. Above all, it was an enjoyable and rewarding experience."
Professor Lee Jieun, who is in charge of the course, stated, "The enthusiastic participation of adult learners is deeply moving as an educator," and added, "I will strive to help Oi Market grow into an international program that people around the world can join in the future."
Kim Insook, head of the Department of Welfare Management, commented, "Oi Market is a symbolic program that leads the culture of giving as a prestigious department," and said, "We plan to continue ESG activities in collaboration with the local community going forward."
The College of Future Convergence at Dongmyung University operates adult-friendly educational programs for adult learners and employees of industrial companies, and is leading efforts to strengthen adult learners' social participation capabilities through a curriculum that balances theory and practice.
