Immediate Response After the Ruling... Enhanced Counseling and Information Services, 24-Hour Chatbot Operation
Mayor Kangdeok Lee: "I hope the legal team and the bar association will join forces for a strong response in the Supreme Court appeal"
Pohang City has officially launched the 'Pohang Earthquake Citizen Information Center' to minimize confusion and anxiety among citizens following the recent appellate court ruling on the Pohang earthquake, and to provide prompt guidance.
Kangdeok Lee, mayor of Pohang, is issuing a statement at the city hall on the 13th immediately after the appellate court ruling on the mental damage compensation for the Pohang induced earthquake. Provided by Pohang City
This measure was implemented immediately after the appellate court ruling, which did not recognize state responsibility, demonstrating the city's strong commitment to protecting its citizens.
On the 13th, the Daegu High Court overturned the first trial decision in the appellate case regarding compensation for mental damage caused by the Pohang induced earthquake, ruling that the state was not liable for damages.
As a result, with a sharp increase in citizen anxiety and civil complaints, Pohang City immediately established the information center within the Earthquake Disaster Prevention Division at City Hall on the 13th, strengthening counseling and information services.
The information center provides accurate and prompt counseling on a variety of inquiries, including the details of the ruling, future procedures, whether an appeal to the Supreme Court will be filed, and litigation costs, either by phone or in person.
In addition, a 'smart information system' utilizing a KakaoTalk chatbot is also in operation to provide 24-hour service. Citizens can receive counseling at any time by adding the Pohang City Hall Earthquake Litigation Information Desk as a friend via KakaoTalk (KakaoTalk - Friends - Search - Pohang City Hall Earthquake Litigation Information Desk).
Mayor Kangdeok Lee stated, "I believe this appellate court ruling has caused great disappointment and anxiety among citizens," and added, "I hope the legal team and the local bar association will make every effort in the Supreme Court appeal, and I ask for careful consideration so that citizens do not bear any additional costs during the appeal process."
He continued, "Although the ruling did not meet citizens' expectations, Pohang City will never cease its efforts to protect citizens' rights and restore damages, regardless of the circumstances," and added, "We will continue to provide necessary legal information and counseling through the information center."
