Historical Experiences and Student Self-Governance Discussions for the 80th Anniversary of Liberation
The Jeonnam Office of Education announced on May 16 that the 7th Jeonnam Student Council conducted legislative exchange activities together with the Jeonbuk Student Council in the Jeonbuk region.
This exchange originated from an invitation extended by Oh Hyunseo, Chairperson of the Jeonbuk Student Council, to the Jeonnam Student Council during the 2nd National Student Council Chairs' Conference, which was hosted by the Jeonnam Office of Education last year. The meeting between the two councils was arranged at the "Korea Glocal Future Education Expo" held at that time.

On the first day of the legislative exchange, participants attended a youth expo, shared examples of student council legislative activities, and held discussions on ways to revitalize student self-governance. On the second day, in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Liberation, a historical experience program was organized, which included visits to anti-Japanese historical sites in Gunsan and the March 1st Movement Memorial Tower in Osu-myeon, Imsil-gun.
The Office of Education evaluated that this exchange activity not only broadened the base of student self-governance but also provided practical support in fostering students' democratic leadership.
Park Jua, a student council member from Haeryong High School, said, "By working together with the Jeonbuk student council members, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of the roles and significance of student councils. In particular, visiting the anti-Japanese historical sites gave me a sense of historical pride, and I hope to successfully lead the '80th Anniversary of Liberation Jeonnam Righteousness Education Academic and Cultural Festival' that is currently being prepared."
Shim Chisook, Director of the Department of Educational Autonomy, stated, "Exchange between student councils of different regions is a valuable opportunity for students to share opinions from diverse perspectives. We will actively support the Jeonnam Student Council so that it can grow into a leading force in the future of K-democracy."
