The Institute for Scientific Data Innovation at the College of Natural Sciences, Seoul National University announced on the 17th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for joint research with the Center for Ecological Research at Kyoto University. The aim is to conduct research in the fields of ecology and evolution based on big data, and to foster the next generation of scholars.
Through this MOU, the two universities have established a foundation for promoting joint research and training of future scholars through 2028.
Chung Choongwon, Director of the Center for Biological Data Science, and Professor Joo Yongseong agreed to launch joint research based on genomics and metabolomics analysis methodologies concurrently with the signing of the agreement. They also plan to promote annual mutual research visits by graduate students and researchers to enhance the international capabilities of the next generation of talent.
The Kyoto Center for Ecological Research will operate shared-use facilities for various analytical instruments, providing research space and equipment to both domestic and international researchers.
A Seoul National University official stated, "The Kyoto University Center for Ecological Research conducts research in a wide range of fields, including theoretical ecology, molecular ecology, animal ecology, and plant ecology." The official added, "In particular, the Kyoto Center for Ecological Research has accumulated more than 50 years of long-term ecological data, and by leveraging the data analysis and artificial intelligence technologies of the Institute for Scientific Data Innovation, we expect to be able to analyze the center's vast ecological datasets."
