Seven Damage Reports Filed Due to Torrential Downpour
Heavy rain continued until the morning of the 16th, centered on the southern coast of Jeollanam-do, with 179.2mm recorded in Jangheung, resulting in 7 damage reports including flood concerns and fallen trees. Yonhap News
Heavy rain fell mainly along the southern coast of Jeollanam-do, leading to a series of damage reports from various areas.
According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration, from the afternoon of the previous day when the rain began until 5 a.m. on the 16th, cumulative precipitation in Jangheung, Jeollanam-do reached 179.2mm, the highest in the region. Goheung recorded 159.5mm, Gangjin 132.1mm, Yeosu 55.5mm, Boseong 55mm, Gwangyang 39mm, Yeongam 29mm, and Gwangju 4.5mm.
In particular, heavy downpours exceeding 30mm per hour were observed in areas such as Jangheung (37.7mm), Gangjin (32.5mm), and Goheung (30mm).
Due to the intense rainfall over a short period, the Jeonnam Fire Department received a total of 7 damage reports. These included 3 reports of concerns over residential flooding, 3 reports of fallen trees, and 1 report of concern over road flooding. There were no casualties or actual flooding incidents. In Jangheung, the fire authorities took safety measures due to concerns about flooding in a residential yard, and in Goheung, a tree fell onto a road.
The heavy rain advisories that had been issued for the three cities and counties of Jangheung, Goheung, and Gangjin have now all been lifted. However, some coastal areas still have lingering rain clouds, resulting in intermittent rainfall.
This rain is forecast to continue across the entire Gwangju and Jeollanam-do regions until the night of the 16th. Expected precipitation amounts are 20 to 70mm for Gwangju and Jeollanam-do, and 30 to 80mm for the southern coast of Jeollanam-do.
