Free Installation of Water Barriers and Backflow Prevention Devices
for Flood-Prone Households in Low-Lying and Basement Homes
630 Water Barriers and 450 Backflow Prevention Devices to Be Installed
Geumcheon District (District Mayor Yoo Seonghun) announced that it will provide free installation of flood prevention facilities to prevent sewage backflow and residential flooding during heavy summer rains.
The flood prevention facilities include water barriers, which block rainwater from entering from outside during heavy rainfall, and backflow prevention devices, which prevent sewage from flowing back into residential drains.
Water barriers are mainly installed at building entrances and windows to prevent surface rainwater from entering homes. Backflow prevention devices are installed in drains such as sinks and bathrooms to prevent sewage from backing up into drainage systems of low-lying homes.
The support targets are flood-prone households, such as those in low-lying areas and basement homes, with plans to provide 630 water barriers and 450 backflow prevention devices.
Residents who wish to have flood prevention facilities installed can contact their local community center or the Water Management Division of Geumcheon District Office. After a government official visits the registered site to assess the need and quantity, installation will proceed if the requirements are met.
A district official stated, "It is difficult to confirm the installation intention of households that do not respond among the managed semi-basement homes, so we are actively encouraging the installation of flood prevention facilities through on-site visits and public outreach."
Yoo Seonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon District, said, "Flood prevention facilities are the minimum measure to protect the precious lives and property of our residents. We will do our best to complete installations in vulnerable homes before the rainy season."
