Gwangjin District Launches 'Gwangjin Sari Plan B' to Help New Young Residents Settle

Gwangjin District (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) is operating the 'Gwangjin Sari Plan B' program to help young people who have recently moved into the area settle stably within the local community.

'Gwangjin Sari Plan B,' organized by the Seoul Youth Center Gwangjin, was established to support young people who lack information about their new neighborhood and have difficulty forming social networks.

The main components of the program include: operation of a 'youth community' featuring cultural and leisure activities and tours of Gwangjin District attractions; distribution of a 'welcome kit'; and guidance on youth support systems and policies. Community activities will be held every month until October, and a 'welcome kit' containing daily necessities will be provided every even-numbered month.

Young people aged 19 to 39 who have moved into Gwangjin District after January 1, 2024, can apply to participate via the Seoul Public Reservation System. Participants will be selected through a random draw, and applicants must submit a certificate of residence or family relationship issued within one month of the application date. For more details, inquiries can be made to the Gwangjin District Office's Employment and Youth Division.

During the first session of the community program, participating young people spent time communicating and interacting while building cookie houses. They shared their daily lives by introducing 'our neighborhood's attractions' and 'the best items in our homes,' naturally building a sense of closeness. Useful information was also provided, including support systems for single-person households and housing policies.

Participants will also be directly involved in designing and deciding the contents of the next 'welcome kit.' Last month, a package containing a practical set of seasonings and condiments, along with a bouquet of freesia flowers to welcome new residents, was presented.

In addition, the district is promoting a variety of effective youth support policies, such as Gwangjin-style youth monthly rent support, meal support for unemployed single-person youth households, operation of the Youth Startup Space, and the Youth Cultural Life Voucher support program.

Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, stated, "I hope that 'Gwangjin Sari Plan B' will serve as a reliable support for young people embarking on a new chapter as members of our community," and added, "We will continue to develop and implement customized policies so that young people can pursue their dreams and grow together with the local community."
