First Achiever: Kim Miseo

Gijang County in Busan (Governor Jung Jongbok) announced on May 15 that the first achiever of the children's reading project "1,000 Picture Books" has emerged at Naeri Library.

"1,000 Picture Books" is a reading program promoted by Gijang County for children aged five and older who have not yet entered school, as well as students up to the second grade of elementary school. Children who complete reading 1,000 picture books and fill their stamp book receive a certificate and a medal. The program is currently operated at three locations: Jeonggwan Library, Jeonggwan Children's Library, and Naerisae Library.

The first child to complete the program at Naerisae Library is Kim Miseo, a student at Naeri Elementary School, who steadily read books for about nine months starting from August last year and finished all 1,000 books.

Kim Miseo shared, "I ended up reading all 1,000 books because I enjoyed reading at the library I often visited with my mother," and added, "I feel very proud to be the first achiever."

A county official stated, "This project will give children an opportunity to experience the joy of reading and a sense of accomplishment," and added, "We plan to continuously expand programs that can further increase children's interest in reading."
