On May 14, shares of wind energy-related companies such as SK Oceanplant are showing strong performance. This comes as Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, recorded majority support in opinion polls, drawing attention to his renewable energy pledges.
As of 9:42 a.m. on this day, SK Oceanplant is trading at 17,100 won, up 1,200 won (7.55%) from the previous trading day.
Other stocks such as CS Wind (5.47%), SK EterNix (6.39%), and Geumyang Green Power (6.75%) are also performing strongly.
This is interpreted as being influenced by the results of an opinion poll in which candidate Lee Jaemyung, who has proposed renewable energy pledges, showed majority support.
According to a survey conducted by Gallup Korea at the request of News1 from May 12 to 13 among 1,002 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide, candidate Lee Jaemyung recorded 51% support. Kim Moonsu, the candidate of the People Power Party, received 31%, and Lee Junseok, the candidate of the Reform New Party, received 8% support, respectively.
On May 13, the second official day of the election campaign, Lee Jaemyung visited Gumi, North Gyeongsang Province, and emphasized renewable energy, stating, "Even now, if we build transmission and distribution networks in rural areas with low population density so that we can sell electricity, and develop solar power, it will create jobs for the people, and the wind power and solar power industries will grow."
