Field-Centered Management Leads to Results... Comprehensive Inspections of Over 7,000 Long-Uninspected Establishments
Strengthening Systematic Food Safety Management... Confirming Closure Status of Long-Term Non-Operating Businesses, and More
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Hokwon) announced that it was the only autonomous district in Seoul to be selected as an 'Outstanding Institution' in the 2025 Food Safety Management Evaluation, thereby demonstrating its systematic management capabilities both internally and externally.
The Food Safety Management Evaluation is conducted annually by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety to review overall food management systems and performance, as well as to identify and share best practices. This year's award was presented to only the top 16 cities, counties, and districts nationwide on May 14, in celebration of Food Safety Day, making it even more meaningful.
This year, the evaluation comprehensively assessed seven categories across 245 local governments (cities, provinces, and city/counties/districts) nationwide, including food hygiene monitoring systems, civil complaint processing rates, and hazardous food collection and inspection performance. Among these, the district received high marks for its systematic inspection activities, operation of a smart field reporting system, responsiveness and accuracy in handling civil complaints, and rapid recall of hazardous foods.
In particular, the district's proactive field-centered management activities were evaluated positively. To prevent food poisoning and address blind spots in hygiene management, the district conducted comprehensive inspections of approximately 7,000 establishments that had not been inspected for an extended period, actively promoted compliance with the Food Sanitation Act, and strengthened on-site management.
Based on this year's achievements, the district plans to further strengthen on-site management of food sanitation businesses. The district will focus on checking personal hygiene and kitchen cleanliness, as well as confirming the closure status of long-term non-operating establishments, in order to eliminate management blind spots.
Choi Hokwon, the district mayor, stated, "This award is the result of continuous efforts made together with local business owners to create a safe food environment," adding, "We will continue to listen to voices from the field and strive to create an environment where residents can confidently choose their food."
