Rescued by the Rapid Response of the Chinese Coast Guard
A fishing boat registered in Jeju was sinking in the East China Sea, southwest of Seogwipo, Jeju, but all crew members were rescued.
At approximately 6:11 p.m. on May 13, the Coast Guard received a report that the A-ho, a 29-ton longline coastal fishing vessel registered in Moseulpo, was sinking in the East China Sea, 563 kilometers southwest of Seogwipo, Jeju.
All crew members aboard the A-ho were rescued by the Chinese Coast Guard, which responded urgently to the scene, at around 8:20 p.m. the same day.
According to the entry and exit management system, there were 10 crew members registered on board the A-ho at the time of departure, but 2 disembarked during the voyage, so there were 8 people on board at the time of the accident. The captain of the A-ho is Korean, while the remaining 7 crew members are all Indonesian nationals. All rescued crew members are reported to be in good health.
Earlier, the Coast Guard dispatched an aircraft and a large patrol vessel to the site, and requested assistance for the rescue from related agencies, including the Zhejiang RCC (Rescue Coordination Center) in China, the Navy, and nearby vessels. The Jeju Regional Coast Guard Headquarters is currently moving a 5,000-ton patrol vessel rapidly to the site to take over the rescued crew members, and it is expected to arrive at the scene at around 8 a.m. tomorrow. The Jeju Regional Coast Guard Headquarters also plans to send a letter of appreciation to the Chinese rescue authorities. In addition, the authorities will investigate the exact circumstances of the accident through interviews with the rescued captain and crew members.
