King Charles III Invites President Macron for State Visit in July

State Visit to Windsor Castle from July 8 to 10

King Charles III of the United Kingdom has invited French President Emmanuel Macron for a state visit from July 8 to 10 (local time), Buckingham Palace announced on May 13.

Buckingham Palace stated that President Macron and his wife Brigitte have accepted King Charles III's invitation for a state visit and will be staying at Windsor Castle.

This will be President Macron's first state visit to the United Kingdom. The last time a French president paid a state visit to the UK was in March 2008, when then-President Nicolas Sarkozy visited at the invitation of the late Queen Elizabeth II. King Charles III and Queen Camilla paid a state visit to France in September 2023.

During his state visit, President Macron is also scheduled to hold a summit with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Amid a period when former US President Donald Trump distanced himself from European security and threatened to impose tariffs, the United Kingdom and France are expected to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening cooperation through this visit.

The two countries have experienced tensions since the Brexit negotiations, ranging from illegal immigration by small boats crossing the English Channel from the French coast to the UK, to disputes over EU fishermen operating in UK waters. However, recently, Prime Minister Starmer and President Macron have been strengthening cooperation by jointly leading the "Alliance of Will" for postwar security in Ukraine.
