Mentoring Program for Environmental Clubs
Expanding Youth Participation in Environmental Activities
The Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office and the Jeollanam-do Office of Education signed a memorandum of understanding on the 13th to establish a cooperative system for environmental education between the environmental office and the education office.
This agreement aims to expand youth participation in environmental policy and to lay the foundation for practice-oriented environmental education. In particular, a key feature is that staff from the environmental office will directly participate in environmental club programs and operate a mentor-mentee system.
From the left, Kim Youngwoo, Commissioner of the Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office, and Kim Daejung, Superintendent of Jeollanam-do Office of Education, are holding up the agreement after signing a memorandum of understanding to establish a cooperative system for environmental education on the 13th.
Under the agreement, the Yeongsan River Basin Environmental Office plans to run experiential programs for 102 environmental club teams in elementary, middle, and high schools in the Jeollanam-do region. These programs will investigate the causes of water pollution and seek improvement measures.
Through a "one mentor, multiple mentees" mentoring system, experts will analyze water quality together with students and support youth in exploring environmental issues. In addition, environmental education linked to local festivals and other events will also be promoted.
Commissioner Kim Youngwoo stated, "I hope this agreement will serve as an opportunity for young people to take an interest in and participate in environmental policy."
