Statistics Korea announced on May 13 that it held an inauguration ceremony for the '2025 Population and Housing Census and Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Census Implementation Headquarters' at the Government Complex in Seo-gu, Daejeon.

The Population and Housing Census and the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Census are overseen by Statistics Korea and conducted by local governments. The two organizations will jointly carry out tasks such as recruiting and training survey personnel, promoting the census, and conducting field surveys. The plan is to efficiently implement the censuses by sharing resources such as situation rooms, call centers, tablets, and promotional activities.

The Population and Housing Census is a fundamental national statistic that surveys the population, households, and housing within the territory of Korea. It is the first large-scale survey to analyze domestic social phenomena since the COVID-19 pandemic. This census includes new survey items reflecting socioeconomic changes, such as family care time, unmarried cohabitation, and rental entity.

The Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Census targets all agricultural, forestry, and fishery households nationwide to examine issues such as climate change (paddy rice water management), advances in farming technology (smart agriculture), and changes in population structure (household member nationality, multicultural family support centers by administrative district).

Lee Hyungil, Commissioner of Statistics Korea, stated, "We are making thorough preparations to ensure the successful completion of both censuses, and we ask for the public's keen interest and active participation."
