Secured an Additional 1.38 Billion Won in 2026 Lottery Fund
The city of Daejeon announced that its transportation support program for the mobility disadvantaged, "Sarangnanum Call," received an "Excellent" rating in the 2024 Lottery Fund Performance Evaluation, securing 13.683 billion won from the 2026 Lottery Fund.
In this year's performance evaluation by the Ministry of Economy and Finance's Lottery Commission, Daejeon scored 86.64 points, ranking third among the 17 cities and provinces nationwide. The city secured 1.388 billion won more in funding than this year (12.295 billion won). This marks the largest amount Daejeon has ever secured from the Lottery Fund.
"Sarangnanum Call" is a transportation service designed to guarantee mobility rights and promote social participation for the mobility disadvantaged. It has been operated with support from the Lottery Fund since 2017. Citizens who have difficulty using public transportation, such as those with severe mobility impairments, seniors aged 65 and older, and pregnant women, can use the service by registering as members of the Daejeon Mobility Support Center for the Mobility Disadvantaged. The service area covers all of Daejeon as well as parts of Sejong, South Chungcheong, and North Chungcheong (Cheongju, Boeun, and Okcheon).
In 2024, the city recorded 750,000 rides, an increase of approximately 160,000 compared to 2023. Notably, the average waiting time was reduced by 18.4% compared to 2023, to 19 minutes and 9 seconds, earning recognition for improved performance.
The newly secured funds will be used to expand special transportation vehicles for wheelchair users and voucher taxis for non-wheelchair users.
Nam Sideok, Director of Daejeon City's Transportation Bureau, stated, "This year, we are focusing on reducing user waiting times by increasing support for voucher taxis and introducing additional special transportation vehicles. We will continue to strive to secure more Lottery Fund resources so that people with mobility challenges can travel safely and conveniently."
