The Democratic Party of Korea's Real Republic of Korea Gwangju Election Countermeasures Committee held a kickoff ceremony at 2 p.m. on the 12th at the May 18 Democratic Square, announcing the launch of a full-scale election campaign aimed at a change of government ahead of the June 3 presidential election.

At the ceremony, participants reaffirmed their determination to "firmly eradicate the forces of rebellion and restore the collapsed democracy," and pledged to "rekindle the flames of judgment against the current administration from Gwangju, the heart of the May 18 spirit."

The event was attended by more than 1,000 people, including Yang Bunam, Chief Standing Election Committee Chair of the Gwangju Election Committee, other standing election committee chairs, Park Jieon, Co-Chair of the Central Election Committee, Jeong Cheongrae, Gwangju-Jeonnam Chair of the Central Election Committee's Every Alley Campaign, other election committee officials from the Gwangju Election Committee, elected Democratic Party officials, citizens, and party members.

During the ceremony, Yang Bunam stated, "The June election is the day to elect a leader capable of fulfilling the three major tasks of ending rebellion, restoring people's livelihoods and economic growth, achieving national unity, and resolving social conflict. Now, we must elect candidate Lee Jaemyung to create a true Republic of Korea."

Park Jieon, Co-Chair of the Central Election Committee, added, "During Lee Jaemyung's listening tour in Jeonnam, I felt as if President Kim Daejung had been reborn. Just as President Kim Daejung succeeded, I am confident that Lee Jaemyung, who overcame the 12·3 rebellion, will also succeed." Jeong Cheongrae, Gwangju-Jeonnam Chair of the Every Alley Campaign, appealed for "overwhelming support to end the rebellion and achieve a change of government."

Citizens who attended the ceremony said, "The democracy that our parents built with their bodies in May 1980 is now being shaken," and called for "building a country where ordinary life is possible, powered by the strength of Gwangju."

Meanwhile, with the official election campaign starting on this day, the Gwangju Election Committee began full-scale campaigning, focusing on key rallies at each regional committee.

The key rally locations by regional committee are: Baegun Square in Dongnam-gap, Dong-gu Office Intersection in Dongnam-eul, KBS Intersection in Seogu-gap, under the Pungam Overpass in Seogu-eul, Buk-gu Office Intersection in Bukgu-gap and Bukgu-eul, Yeonggwangtong Intersection in Gwangsan-gap, and Sinchang IC Intersection in Gwangsan-eul. The campaign will begin with greetings during the morning commute and will continue with efforts to engage directly with citizens throughout the election period.
