Jeonnam Province will conduct a comprehensive inspection of the implementation status of livestock heatwave damage prevention measures for two weeks starting from the 12th to prepare for summer heatwaves.
This inspection aims to prevent damage to livestock farms by checking the on-site response status in each city and county, in anticipation of an earlier onset of heat and a continuous increase in the number of heatwave days compared to previous years, as forecasted by the Korea Meteorological Administration.
Last year alone, a total of 338,000 livestock in Jeonnam suffered damage from heatwaves.
The key inspection items include: timely supply of heat stress alleviators by livestock type and installation of heatwave damage prevention facilities; application of heat insulation materials on barn roofs and participation in disaster insurance; operation status of the one-on-one assignment system between city and county officials and livestock farmers; and dissemination of livestock management and farmer action guidelines.
Park Hyunsik, Director of the Agriculture, Livestock and Food Bureau of Jeonnam Province, stated, "As heatwaves are becoming more frequent and intense due to climate change, it is important to complete heatwave prevention projects early and to ensure both proactive prevention and swift response," adding, "We will do our utmost to minimize damage to livestock farms."
Meanwhile, Jeonnam Province conducted a preliminary inspection in April for 648 farms vulnerable to summer disasters. In addition, this year, the province is focusing all efforts on preventing summer livestock disasters by supporting a total of 16.6 billion won across six projects: 1 billion won for new support for livestock heatwave damage prevention facilities, 10 billion won for livestock disaster insurance premiums, 1.7 billion won for heat stress alleviators, 300 million won for support for heat insulation coating on barn roofs, 2.7 billion won for feed efficiency improvement agents, and 900 million won for ventilation fans for dairy farms.
