Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital announced on May 12 that it has introduced the state-of-the-art automatic anticancer injection preparation robot, 'KIRO Oncology,' for the first time in the Honam region.

The newly introduced anticancer injection preparation robot is a precision automatic compounding system currently used in 34 medical institutions worldwide, including in the United States and Spain. Its two robotic arms are capable of preparing extremely small doses with precision, down to a minimum of 0.25 ml, and it is particularly optimized for patients who require precision-tailored treatments, such as pediatric cancer patients.

Additionally, the system can be widely utilized regardless of the type or manufacturer of infusion solutions used in anticancer drug preparation. Thanks to its patented 'Universal Vial Adaptor' technology, it can automatically adjust to various sizes of vials, providing excellent adaptability to new drugs. This is also expected to significantly strengthen the hospital's clinical research capabilities.

The Pharmacy Department at Hwasun Chonnam National University Hospital is also operating a variety of automated compounding systems, including the newly introduced anticancer injection preparation robot, a fully automated narcotic drug dispensing cabinet system (Automated Dispensing Cabinets, ADC), and a fully automated tablet dispenser equipped with automatic re-dispensing (ARD) functionality.

Lee Jeongmi, head of the Pharmacy Department, stated, "With the introduction of this anticancer injection preparation robot, we have further enhanced the precision and consistency of anticancer drug preparation, contributing to patient safety and creating a safer and more efficient compounding environment."

Min Jeongjun, director of the hospital, said, "We are striving to improve the quality of patient-centered pharmaceutical services through advanced automated compounding technology," and added, "With the introduction of this anticancer injection preparation robot, we will take another step forward as a world-class cancer hospital leading the era of precision medicine."
