Tied for 8th Place at the World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup
KLPGA Revises Rules to Strengthen Global Competitiveness
First Case of Earning Points Equal to Domestic Major 8th Place
Hyunkyung Park participated in an overseas major tournament and earned points for the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Player of the Year standings.
Hyunkyung Park tied for 8th place at the World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup, a major tournament in Japan, earning domestic points for the KLPGA.
According to the KLPGA on May 12, Hyunkyung Park tied for 8th place at the World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup, a major tournament on the Japan Ladies Professional Golf Association (JLPGA) Tour, which concluded the previous day at Ibaraki Golf Club in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan. With this result, she earned 38 KLPGA WEMADE Player of the Year points, the same number of points awarded for an 8th place finish at a domestic major tournament.
Last month, the KLPGA revised its regulations to abolish the mandatory participation rule for domestic major tournaments and to award Player of the Year points to players competing in overseas major tournaments, aiming to enhance global competitiveness. Hyunkyung Park became the first player to benefit from this new rule. By adding 38 points, she brought her total to 115 points, moving up from 11th to 7th place in the standings. The current leader in this category, with 221 points and two wins this year, is Lee Yewon.
Hyunkyung Park said, "It was already meaningful to represent Korea in an overseas major tournament, but I am very happy to have also earned Player of the Year points with a good result. I will continue to improve my skills on various stages and reward my fans with even better performances in the future."
