Hygiene Rating System Introduced
Hygiene Up! Sales Up!
Yeongdeok County in North Gyeongsang Province will provide customized consulting for the "Restaurant Hygiene Rating System" to 16 food service establishments in the area, aiming to improve hygiene standards at local restaurants and create a safe dining environment.
The "Restaurant Hygiene Rating System" is a program designed to enhance consumer choice and strengthen dining safety. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety evaluates the hygiene status of restaurants and assigns one of four ratings: Excellent (★★★), Very Good (★★), Good (★), and General.
Businesses participating in this consulting program will receive tailored technical support necessary to prepare for the hygiene rating system. From May to August, professional consultants will visit each site three times to assess hygiene levels and provide guidance for improving the business environment.
Restaurants that receive a hygiene rating will be eligible for several benefits, including support for on-site disinfection, exemption from hygiene-related inspections for two years, provision of hygiene rating signs, and support for hygiene supplies. In particular, this year, additional points will be awarded during the selection of "Yeongdeok Matjip" (Yeongdeok's best restaurants), helping to boost both credibility and recognition.
County Governor Kim Kwangyeol stated, "The purpose of this initiative is to provide on-site, customized consulting in line with the changing times and increasing demand for dining out, so that local restaurants can voluntarily improve not only taste but also their hygiene standards." He added, "We will continue our efforts to create an environment where both tourists and residents visiting Yeongdeok can enjoy their meals with peace of mind."
