HFR to Participate in Low-Earth Orbit Satellite Communication Technology Development

HFR, a company specializing in information and communications networking, announced on May 12 that it will participate as a joint research and development institution with ETRI in developing core technologies for low-Earth orbit satellite communication payloads based on 6G international standards. The company is led by CEO Jung Jongmin.

The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Aerospace Administration recently finalized the lead organizations and major participating companies for each sub-project of the "6G Low-Earth Orbit Satellite Communication System Development" initiative. This project has a total budget of 320 billion KRW and aims to develop practical low-Earth orbit communication satellites, ground stations, and user terminals using domestic technology by 2030.

HFR attracted significant attention from the public and the industry at MWC2025 by showcasing technologies and products that combine its subsidiary HFR Mobile's 5G private network with SpaceX's low-Earth orbit satellite communication service Starlink. International research firm ABI Research recently featured this achievement in its white paper titled "Inside the Orbit of Innovation."

An HFR representative expressed the company's commitment, stating, "As we are receiving valuable national research and development funding, we will fulfill our responsibilities and take the lead in commercialization."

Meanwhile, according to Global Market Insights, the market size for 6G mobile satellite payloads is expected to reach 17 billion dollars by 2032, with an average annual growth rate of 25%.
