Through this agreement, the two institutions will establish a sustainable cooperative system and work together to create an advanced research ecosystem.

The agreement originated from discussions between the two university presidents in early March. After four rounds of working-level meetings, concrete cooperation measures were established. During these meetings, the parties reviewed plans for operating joint research programs, linking educational curricula, sharing infrastructure, and establishing governance structures.

In accordance with the agreement, the two universities will form a "Convergence Cooperation Committee." This committee will be responsible for identifying and promoting practical collaborative projects.

The main areas of cooperation include: joint research in strategic technology fields through a joint seed fund; collaborative research focused on the universities' strengths in areas such as AI, energy, bio, and environment; exchange of lectures and credits, as well as the operation of a joint advisory professor system; holding joint conferences twice a year; and sharing research and welfare infrastructure.

President Park Jongrae stated, "This agreement lays the foundation for both institutions to pool their research capabilities and jointly respond to future national strategic technologies," and added, "We plan to actively support the partnership between UNIST and Korea University so that it leads to tangible results."

President Kim Dongwon said, "This agreement with UNIST marks the beginning of a strong partnership that will open the future of humanity beyond Korea," and continued, "I look forward to creating a new model for higher education together, based on the trust and solidarity between our institutions."
