Gyeonggi-do to Hold Baby Boomer Intern Camp; Applications Open Until June 20

Gyeonggi-do is accepting applications for the "Gyeonggi Baby Boomer Intern (In-Turn) Camp," a gap year program designed for middle-aged and older residents of the province who are seeking new challenges at a turning point in their lives. Applications will be accepted until June 20.

The program is open to Gyeonggi-do residents aged 40 to 64 who are either retired or preparing for retirement.

Held under the slogan "My Starting Point, Life's Turning Point," the camp is an experiential gap year project that helps middle-aged and older adults who are facing retirement or a career transition to step away from their daily routines in a new region, stay there for a period, and redesign their lives.

A gap year refers to taking a break from school or work to engage in various activities for self-reflection and rejuvenation. This intern camp has been newly designed to suit the characteristics and transitional period of the middle-aged generation, marking the first time a local government has launched such a program.

The program will run for 15 weeks starting in July. Participants will receive life-transition education within the province and will stay for three days and two nights in one of four locations matched to them: Namwon in Jeonbuk, Inje in Gangwon, Goryeong in Gyeongbuk, or Paju in Gyeonggi. Afterward, participants will form teams to directly explore local issues and independently plan and carry out small-scale projects, providing an opportunity to reflect on their lives and create a turning point.

Baby boomers who wish to participate can apply through the Gyeonggi Provincial Government website (gg.go.kr) from May 12 to June 20. Gyeonggi-do will select a final group of 120 participants through online interviews held on June 25 and 26.
