US and China Hold 10-Hour Marathon Trade Talks... Trump Says "Great Progress"

Major foreign media outlets reported that the delegations from both countries resumed talks on this day after meeting the previous day.

The delegations, led by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Besant and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng, held a "marathon meeting" lasting about 10 hours on the first day of the high-level trade negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland, on May 10, discussing issues such as tariff reductions.

This marks the first time since the launch of the Donald Trump administration that the two countries, which had effectively severed trade relations amid a "tariff war," have met face-to-face to discuss pending issues.

While the specific results of the first day's discussions have not been disclosed, U.S. President Donald Trump, who has been leading the "tariff war," described the first day as having made "great progress" after the conclusion of the day's agenda.

Accordingly, there is speculation that some form of agreement may be reached on this day, which was originally scheduled as the final day of the talks.
