The Democratic Party of Korea on May 11 criticized former President Yoon Seokyoul for releasing a public appeal, accusing him of "attempting to interfere in the presidential election."
Han Minsoo, spokesperson for the party's central election committee, said at a briefing that day, "After Han Ducksoo's rebellion, which he orchestrated from behind the scenes, failed, Yoon Seokyoul is now acting out himself. Yoon Seokyoul's interference in the presidential election is an insult to the people and yet another declaration of war against democracy."
Han added, "It is appalling that the ringleader of an insurrection, who destroyed the constitutional order by turning weapons against the people, dares to plead with the people to protect the Republic of Korea. We must never stand by and allow an insurrectionist ringleader who refuses to pay for his crimes to attempt to interfere in the presidential election."
Han also stated, "The Jigwiyoun court should immediately re-detain Yoon Seokyoul and conduct a strict trial to prove to the public that judicial justice is alive."
On the same day, former President Yoon posted a message on Facebook titled "An Appeal to the People," stating, "The presidential election is not simply about a change of government; it is an election that stands at the crossroads of whether to protect or destroy the free Republic of Korea." He added, "Now we must unite."
Yoon also said, "To the youth who cherish freedom, I ask you once again to join together. Please summon once more the courage and conviction that kept us united and unbroken during the impeachment crisis last winter. Rise again and make your voices heard."
