Chun Seonran's Novel "One Thousand Blues" Signed for Film Adaptation with Warner Bros.

"One Thousand Blues" to Be Adapted into a Film
Global Release Planned
Contract Estimated at 600?700 Million Won

On May 10, Hubble Publishing announced that the science fiction novel "One Thousand Blues" by author Chun Seonran will be adapted into a Hollywood film.

According to Hubble, the literary brand of Dongasia Publishing, a film adaptation contract was recently signed with Warner Bros. Pictures for the novel "One Thousand Blues." The value of the rights contract is estimated to be between 600 million and 700 million won. Warner Bros. Pictures is a global studio known for producing popular films such as the "Harry Potter" series and the "Dune" series.



Warner Bros. Pictures stated, "'One Thousand Blues' is an original and captivating work, and we have high expectations for its adaptation to film," adding, "We are planning to develop the screenplay and directorial team, considering directors and writers such as Celine Song, Greta Gerwig, and Alfonso Cuaron."


"One Thousand Blues" (2020) won the Grand Prize for Best Novel at the 4th Korea Science Literature Awards. Having sold 200,000 copies in South Korea alone, the novel is set in 2035, when robots begin to replace humans. It tells the story of the friendship and solidarity between "Colly," a humanoid jockey created for racing, and his racehorse "Today."


Last year, the work was adapted for the stage as both a play by the National Theater Company of Korea and as a creative musical by the Seoul Performing Arts Company. Due to its positive reception, the creative musical was staged again this year.
