The Korea Automotive Technology Institute is taking the lead in expanding electric vehicles and innovating the public transportation system in Paraguay.
The Korea Automotive Technology Institute announced on the 11th that it held an eco-friendly electric bus delivery ceremony at the Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant in Paraguay on the 9th (local time).
The ceremony was attended by Jin Jongwook, President of the Korea Automotive Technology Institute; Yoon Chansik, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Paraguay; Jung Jaehak, Head of Global Growth Division at the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology; Javier Jimenez, Minister of Industry and Commerce of Paraguay; and Justo Zacarias, President of the Itaipu Power Plant, as well as 50 government, corporate, and institutional representatives from both countries.
This event is a follow-up to the Korea-Paraguay Industrial and Trade Cooperation Development Support Project, which has been carried out by the Korea Automotive Technology Institute since 2022. The project aims to promote the spread of an eco-friendly public transportation system in Paraguay by utilizing electric buses.
After the arrival of five eco-friendly electric buses from Korea in Paraguay, the two countries worked closely together to complete all necessary preparations for operation, including the installation of chargers and the establishment of charging infrastructure. They plan to begin full-scale operation of the electric buses after a pilot run. In particular, both countries are expected to accelerate the establishment of a sustainable future for Paraguay's public transportation system based on the achievements of this project and their close cooperative relationship.
In his congratulatory remarks, Jin Jongwook, President of the Korea Automotive Technology Institute, said, "I am pleased to hold the electric bus delivery ceremony as a result of the Korea-Paraguay cooperation project. I would like to thank the Paraguayan government and all those involved for their active support and cooperation," adding, "We will do our utmost to help establish the foundation for Paraguay's electric transportation system and eco-friendly mobility ecosystem through the successful operation and expansion of electric buses."
