Yoon Sukyeol Returns to the Presidential Race... Declares Support for Kim Moonsu, Urges Unity

"I believe former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo will remain with us"
"Our fight is not internal, but against external challenges"
"The presidential election is a matter of life and death for free Korea"

Former President Yoon Sukyeol expressed his support for Kim Moonsu, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, on the 11th. Yoon called on both his supporters and party rivals, including former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo, to rally behind Kim.

Yoon's statement, titled "An Appeal to the People," was released through the online site Jeonhangil News. In the statement, Yoon commented on the party's presidential primary, which was marred by controversy over the cancellation of candidate selection and early-morning registration, both criticized as a "coup." He stated, "Although there were fierce debates and difficulties, the process still demonstrated the party's vitality."

He said, "The mission for liberal democracy and national prosperity that former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo emphasized when declaring his candidacy has now become a mission to be continued together with candidate Kim Moonsu," adding, "I believe that former Prime Minister Han will remain with us on this path until the end." Yoon was effectively asking Kim to carry on the mission that Han had sought to realize.

He also urged unity around Kim. Yoon said, "I appeal to all citizens who supported other candidates," and added, "Now is the time to come together." He continued, "Our fight is not internal, but rather a fight against external totalitarian threats to our freedom." Yoon emphasized, "Now we must unite," and said, "The 'politics of principle' advocated by candidate Kim is precisely what embodies the essence of liberal democracy."

Regarding this presidential election, Yoon stated, "This is not simply a matter of changing administrations," and stressed, "This election is a matter of life and death, a choice between defending or destroying the system of free Korea." He urged, "Recall the courage and conviction that allowed us to stand united and unbroken during last winter's impeachment crisis," and added, "Raise your voices once again."
