55.8% Support Government Change vs 39.2% Support Continuation
On May 11, a poll revealed that Lee Jaemyung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, received over 50% support in a three-way hypothetical presidential race.
According to a survey conducted by Realmeter for Energy Economy News from May 7 to 9, targeting 1,508 eligible voters aged 18 and older nationwide (with a 95% confidence level and a margin of error of ±2.5 percentage points), Lee Jaemyung garnered 52.1% support in a three-way hypothetical contest. Kim Moonsoo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, followed with 31.1%, and Lee Junseok, the candidate of the Reform New Party, received 6.3%. This survey was conducted before one candidate joined the People Power Party, which sparked a controversy over a possible candidate replacement.
In the previous poll, Lee Jaemyung had 46.6%, Kim Moonsoo had 27.8%, and Lee Junseok had 7.5%. Lee Jaemyung's support increased by 5.5 percentage points, Kim Moonsoo's by 3.3 percentage points, while Lee Junseok's dropped by 1.2 percentage points. The gap between Lee Jaemyung and Kim Moonsoo widened to 21.0 percentage points, compared to 18.8 percentage points the previous week.
By support base, 96.6% of Democratic Party supporters and 84.7% of progressives backed Lee Jaemyung. In contrast, 73.9% of People Power Party supporters and 58.8% of conservatives supported Kim Moonsoo. Among moderates, Lee Jaemyung's support stood at 54.9%, higher than Kim Moonsoo's 24.3%.
55.8% of respondents said they wanted a change of government led by the opposition, while 39.2% said they wanted the ruling bloc to remain in power. Compared to the previous survey, the desire for a change of government increased by 4.3 percentage points, while support for the ruling bloc's continuation dropped by 3.6 percentage points.
By party affiliation, 92.0% of People Power Party supporters wanted the ruling bloc to remain in power, while 98.5% of Democratic Party supporters wanted a change of government. Among those with no party affiliation, 40.8% favored a change of government, and 29.7% favored the continuation of the ruling bloc, indicating a preference for change.
