Pakistan: "India Launches Missile Attacks as an Act of Overt Aggression"
As armed conflict between India and Pakistan intensifies, Pakistan has launched a large-scale military operation against India.
According to AP and Pakistani local media outlet Geo TV on May 10, the Pakistani military announced that it had launched "Bunyan ul Marsoos," an operation in direct response to India's attacks. The operation's name is taken from the Islamic scriptures and means "an unbreakable wall."
The Pakistani military claimed that, in the early stages of the operation, it destroyed a BrahMos missile storage facility in Beas, India, and also attacked the Pathankot and Udhampur airbases. The Pakistani military stated, "In a tit-for-tat response, we targeted the Indian airbase from which missiles were fired at Pakistan."
Previously, Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, spokesperson for the Pakistani military, declared his intent to retaliate, stating that three Pakistani airbases had been hit by Indian missile attacks. Through a state broadcast, he warned, "India has carried out a blatant act of aggression with missile attacks. Now, India can only wait for our response."
He stated that most of the Indian missiles targeting Pakistani military bases had been intercepted and that air force assets had not suffered any damage. One of the bases he identified as having been attacked, the Nur Khan airbase, is located in Rawalpindi, on the outskirts of Islamabad, where the Pakistani military headquarters is situated. He also claimed that some of the missiles launched by India had landed in Afghanistan and said there was evidence to prove this.
Meanwhile, the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) have called for immediate de-escalation and direct dialogue for peace between India and Pakistan, who remain engaged in armed conflict. In a joint statement distributed by the chair country, Canada's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the G7 foreign ministers urged both sides to exercise "maximum restraint," stating, "The escalation of military tensions poses a serious threat to regional stability." They added, "We continue to closely monitor the relevant events and support a swift and sustained diplomatic solution."
