Court Dismisses Kim Moonsoo's Injunction to Recognize Presidential Candidacy... People Power Party Convention to Proceed

The court has rejected an injunction request filed by Kim Moonsoo, the People Power Party presidential candidate, in which he sought to have his candidacy officially recognized. The court also dismissed his request to block the party convention from being held.

The Civil Agreement Division 51 of the Seoul Southern District Court (Presiding Judge Kwon Seongsu) on May 9 dismissed Kim's injunction request against the party, which sought recognition of his status as a presidential candidate. As a result of this decision, the People Power Party will be able to hold its convention as scheduled. The convention is expected to address matters including the selection of the presidential candidate.

Previously, the party leadership announced plans to convene a National Committee meeting on either the 8th or 9th, and the party convention on either the 10th or 11th, taking into account the possibility of unifying Kim Moonsoo's candidacy with that of independent preliminary candidate Han Ducksoo.

In response, Kim's camp objected, stating that "it is unfair to hold a convention just to replace the candidate," and filed the injunction request with the court the previous day.

Seven district party committee chairs who support Kim also filed a separate request to block the National Committee meeting and the convention, but the court dismissed this request as well.
