"People Power Party Suppresses a Proud Candidate"
Denouncing the Party's Disregard and Exclusion of Kim Moonsoo
Mayor Shin Sangjin's Sharp Criticism of the Leadership
Shin Sangjin, Mayor of Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, has delivered strong criticism toward the leadership of the People Power Party.
On May 8, Mayor Shin used his social media to sharply denounce the party's disregard and exclusion of former Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moonsoo, arguing, "The leadership of the People Power Party is failing to maintain its core values and has lost its self-respect, relying instead on outsiders."
Mayor Shin stated, "Kim Moonsoo is a person without flaws, armed with dedication and a strong sense of national duty," and questioned, "What on earth is the reason for ignoring the party's official presidential candidate, who is both upright and highly experienced?" He specifically compared former Governor Kim to Lee Jaemyung, leader of the Democratic Party, saying, "Such a comparison is completely absurd."
He also pointed out that the party leadership is ignoring the 'dynamism of elections,' noting that public sentiment can change rapidly once a full-scale campaign begins, even during a short election period.
Mayor Shin remarked, "There have already been several cases where the conservative camp failed after recruiting figures from outside the party solely based on their approval ratings," and added, "Have you already forgotten what happened with Secretary-General Ban Kimoon and political novice President Yoon Sukyeol?"
He appeared to target the possibility of former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo running for president, assessing him as "a person with no political experience except for fighting the Democratic Party under the Yoon Sukyeol administration," and questioned his ability to handle unexpected variables during an election. In particular, he warned of the conservative camp's vulnerability, saying, "Even a small link, like the Kim Daeup incident during the Lee Hoechang candidacy, can overturn the situation through smear campaigns."
Mayor Shin concluded by saying, "The party leadership must move forward with strong pride and a firm core," and asserted, "If not, the party members and the public will surely hold them accountable."
