According to Uijeongbu Eulji University Hospital on May 8, the hospital increased its bed count by 142, shifting from the previous 599 beds to a new operating system with 741 beds as of April 30.

The hospital explained that this decision was made to proactively respond to the growing demand for medical services in the northeastern region of Gyeonggi Province, and to further strengthen the infrastructure for intensive treatment of critically ill and emergency patients.

Uijeongbu Eulji University Hospital has added 14 beds to its intensive care unit, and assigned these additional beds to the cardiac intensive care unit, which had previously been operated jointly with the medical and surgical intensive care units, establishing an independent operating system.

As a result, the hospital can now provide more specialized treatment for patients visiting with acute cardiac diseases, and the patient monitoring system has been upgraded to enhance treatment safety.

The hospital is also expanding its integrated nursing care ward, where patients can receive both nursing and caregiving services.

The number of beds in this ward has been increased from 88 to 132, and will be further expanded to 176 beds by July, significantly boosting inpatient capacity.

Additionally, 40 beds in the general ward will be designated as specialized beds for specific diseases and will be opened sequentially. The hospital also plans to add more medical staff in line with the bed expansion to maintain the highest quality of medical care.

Director Song Hyun stated, "The expansion of beds is not merely a quantitative increase, but represents qualitative growth that brings us closer to and more focused on our patients. In particular, strengthening the cardiac intensive care unit infrastructure will serve as a crucial foundation for protecting the golden hour for critical cardiovascular disease patients in northern Gyeonggi Province."

He added, "Beyond expanding the number of beds, we will also diversify our departments and specialized medical centers to establish a more robust medical safety net."

Meanwhile, now in its fifth year since opening, Uijeongbu Eulji University Hospital has achieved results not only in medical care, education, and research, but also in building medical infrastructure for the local community.

With this expansion of beds and the integrated nursing care ward, the hospital aims to further solidify its position as a key medical institution for essential services in northern Gyeonggi Province, including high-difficulty surgeries, emergency care, and treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.
