Marine Waste Collection Activity Held at Deoksan Beach
Sampyo Group, together with children from daycare centers in Samcheok, participated in a coastal cleanup activity at a companion beach to protect the marine ecosystem.
Sampyo Group announced on May 8 that on April 29, it conducted a marine waste collection activity at Deoksan Beach in Gondeok-myeon, Samcheok-si, Gangwon Province, with 33 daycare center children and employees of Sampyo Cement participating.
This activity took place at Deoksan Beach, a companion beach adopted and managed by Sampyo Cement since May 2023. Since adopting the companion beach, Sampyo Cement has continued to carry out marine cleanup activities involving both employees and the local community.
In particular, the significance of this year's event was heightened as children who participated in last year's marine cleanup voluntarily joined the activity again this year. The children walked along the beach with Sampyo Cement employees, collecting marine debris such as discarded plastic, styrofoam, and general waste left by tourists. Sampyo Cement employees also provided educational sessions for the daycare children, explaining the impact of marine waste on the ecosystem and the importance of maintaining a clean marine environment.
Sampyo Cement employees who took part in the companion beach cleanup said, "It was a valuable experience for the children to learn the importance of nature and to practice marine environment protection themselves," adding, "It was a meaningful activity to convey the importance of environmental conservation to future generations."
Seo Woncheol, Executive Vice President of External Cooperation at Sampyo Cement, stated, "As a local company in Samcheok, Sampyo Cement is continuously working with the community to protect our beautiful beaches," and added, "We will continue to expand environmental conservation activities involving various generations."
Meanwhile, as part of its ESG management, Sampyo Group is actively promoting environmental protection activities in daily life. Sampyo Cement plans to continue not only marine cleanup activities at Deoksan Beach but also environmental campaigns and community-linked activities centered in Gangwon Province.
