84 Events Including Grand Debate on Policy Directions
"Proposing Tailored Policies for SMEs"
The Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business announced on May 8 that, in celebration of the 37th Small and Medium Business Week, it will hold 84 events for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) across 17 cities and provinces nationwide from May 12 to 16.
The third week of May each year is designated as the statutory Small and Medium Business Week under Article 26 of the Framework Act on Small and Medium Enterprises. This year, the week will be held under the theme, "Cheer Up, SMEs! Korea on the Move Again!"
The week will begin with the "Lovely Concert: Sharing Love with SMEs," an event aimed at promoting cultural management and supporting the culturally underprivileged. On May 12, the "Grand Debate on SME Policy Directions for the Next Administration" will be held at the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business in Yeouido, Seoul. The debate will be attended by Jin Sungjoon, Policy Committee Chair of the Democratic Party of Korea, Kim Sanghoon, Policy Committee Chair of the People Power Party, as well as representatives from the SME sector, academia, and government. They will discuss SME policy priorities that the new administration should pursue first to help revitalize the Korean economy.
In addition, various events are scheduled, including a "Meeting with the Administrator of the Public Procurement Service" to help SMEs secure business opportunities, and a "Forum on Revitalizing Joint Projects of SME Cooperatives." There will also be a range of programs such as the "On-site Clinic for Small Business Success" in response to changes in the business environment, the "Government Joint Briefing on SME Response to EU-CBAM," and the "Yellow Umbrella Family Love Drawing and Poetry Contest," which will be open to the public.
Kim Ki-moon, Chairman of the Korea Federation of Small and Medium Business, stated, "Tailored policies for SMEs are urgently needed, not only due to high interest rates and high tariffs, but also because of sluggish domestic demand and low growth." He added, "With the presidential election approaching, we plan to invite key figures from major political parties during Small and Medium Business Week to propose SME policy priorities for the next administration."
