Green Umbrella, a child welfare organization chaired by Hwang Younggi, announced on May 7 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Nexon Foundation, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Seoul Facilities Corporation to establish the third 'Maple Leaf Playground' aimed at enhancing children's right to play and their right to health.

This new 'Maple Leaf Playground' will be created at the 'Mamkkeot Playground' in Seoul Children's Grand Park, Gwangjin-gu, Seoul. Although the playground was first completed in 2017 and partially remodeled in 2024 with a forest playground concept, the surrounding aging areas had been left neglected. As a result, there was a growing need to supplement the variety and fun elements of play equipment, leading to a renovation to transform the space into one that can further enhance children's play experiences.

Going forward, Green Umbrella will be responsible for the overall design, construction, and operation of the playground. The organization also plans to involve children in the playground design process and conduct advocacy activities to improve awareness of children's right to play.

Nexon will provide the 'MapleStory' IP free of charge and, through the Nexon Foundation, will sponsor a total of 1.1 billion KRW in funding. Seoul Metropolitan Government will handle administrative work and publicity, while Seoul Facilities Corporation will provide the playground site and be responsible for its maintenance after construction.

Green Umbrella expects that this public-private partnership for the creation of the third 'Maple Leaf Playground' will enable greater use of public play spaces where children can play safely and creatively.

Kim Changseop, Domestic Director of MapleStory at Nexon, said, "We hope that through this Maple Leaf Playground project, more children will be able to enjoy their right to play and grow up healthy. We will do our utmost to support Maple Leaf Playground so that it can become an essential space in our society."

Lee Suyeon, Director of the Garden City Bureau at Seoul Metropolitan Government, stated, "By establishing a public playground in Seoul Children's Grand Park where children can play freely, this project will provide children with opportunities to experience happiness in nature. We will continue to do our best to create a special children's grand park that fulfills children's dreams."

Son Sungil, Director of Seoul Children's Grand Park at Seoul Facilities Corporation, said, "Playgrounds are precious spaces where children's social skills, creativity, and health develop. With the collaboration of various organizations, we expect this playground to become even safer and more special. We will continue to strive to ensure that children have a space where they can play freely, imagine, and experience happiness."

Hwang Younggi, Chairman of Green Umbrella, commented, "We hope that the Maple Leaf Playground to be established this time will become a space where children can play freely and serve as a platform to broaden social awareness of children's right to play. Green Umbrella will always work alongside children to create an environment where they can play freely and safely."
