Second Official Meeting for Preservation of Kim Dae-jung's Donggyo-dong Residence to Be Held in Mapo-gu
Mayor Park Kangsoo, Secretary General Bae Kisun, Committee Member Kim Jongdae, and Others to Attend on May 9 at 2:30 PM
Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Kangsoo) will hold the 2nd Preservation Promotion Committee meeting on May 9 at 2:30 PM in the main conference room of Mapo-gu Office to further advance the process of registering the late President Kim Dae-jung's Donggyo-dong residence as a National Registered Cultural Heritage.
To ensure in-depth discussion, the meeting will be attended by Committee Chair Park Kangsoo, Mayor of Mapo-gu, Vice Chair Bae Kisun, Secretary General of the Kim Dae-jung Foundation, and Committee Member Kim Jongdae, a family member of the late President Kim Dae-jung, among others.
This is the second meeting following the one held in December last year, and it will address ways to utilize the late President Kim Dae-jung's Donggyo-dong residence, its potential social contributions, and the overall roles and operational functions of the Preservation Committee.
In particular, the committee plans to explore options for not only preserving the historical value of the Donggyo-dong residence but also utilizing it in various forms, such as a memorial hall or educational space.
Additionally, a wide-ranging exchange of ideas is expected regarding practical approaches to widely promote the great spirit and achievements of the late President Kim Dae-jung.
This meeting will also clearly establish the composition and roles of the Preservation Committee, which are essential requirements for National Registered Cultural Heritage designation, and develop efficient operational methods to actively drive the registration of the Donggyo-dong residence.
Park Kangsoo, Mayor of Mapo-gu, stated, "We will make every effort to ensure that the late President Kim Dae-jung's Donggyo-dong residence becomes more than a simple commemorative space and serves as a living site of historical education that instills the spirit of democracy in future generations."
Mapo-gu formed the Residence Preservation Promotion Committee, including the bereaved family, in cooperation with the Kim Dae-jung Foundation to preserve the Donggyo-dong residence, which was purchased by a private business owner in July last year, in its original state and further enhance its value as a historical space.
In November, Mapo-gu submitted an application to the Seoul Metropolitan Government to register the Donggyo-dong residence as a National Registered Cultural Heritage and has been carrying out various activities to inherit its historical value, such as designating a nearby honorary road as Kim Dae-jung-gil.
