Kim Jaewon Questions Party's True Intentions for the Presidential Election
The campaign team of Kim Moonsoo, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, publicly protested on the 7th, claiming that the party leadership had contacted Hwang Wooyeoh, the chairman of the election management committee, in an attempt to replace the candidate.
Kim Jaewon, former lawmaker and chief of staff for candidate Kim, told reporters near a restaurant in Jongno-gu, Seoul, where Kim Moonsoo and former Prime Minister Han Ducksoo were holding a unification meeting that afternoon, "It is said that Kwon Youngse, the head of the party's emergency committee, visited Chairman Hwang and requested that, since the unification talks between candidate Kim and candidate Han are expected to break down, the candidate selection process should resume from tomorrow."
He continued, "The two are currently meeting to discuss how to unify their candidacies and what roles they will take on in Korea, but the party is trying to push candidate Kim out. If this is true, I cannot help but question what the party is doing and what kind of presidential election the party wants to see."
Kim Jaewon emphasized, "There was no time to lodge a protest with the party, so I am here to inform the public. Even after being briefed on this, candidate Kim said he would meet with candidate Han and continue the talks. The meeting will proceed as planned. I am simply pointing out the unfair and unreasonable actions taking place within the party."
When asked by reporters whether he had protested to the party leadership, Kim Jaewon replied, "There was no time to protest. I am here to let the public know."
